Small steps in the right direction.

Don’t wander aimlessly

I’m starting work on my picturebook today. It’s a small task: collecting reference images, but I’m starting.

This is a dream job for me. But it’s going to get done in small steps.

I was reminded by twitter that today is my 1 year anniversary at twitter.

Getting on twitter a year ago was a small step. I did it to meet people who might hire illustrators.

Signing up for art class was a small step.

Emailing agents for a year was a small step.

Getting an email that’s not ‘awesomesauceartist123@yahoo’ was a small step.

Hiring a caterer to free up time was a small step.

Getting a part time job was a small step.

I could list 1000 small steps.

I’ve been patiently and enthusiastically doing small steps for over a year toward this goal, as many as I could in a day, always in the same direction.

It seems if you keep walking in the direction of your destination and don’t give up you eventually arrive.

I’m reminded of an old story of a group of people who wandered around the desert for 40 years. Don’t be them. Don’t wander aimlessly.
