And the answer is that level is measured by ‘years of experience’. And it’s not about years in the industry or something like that, it’s about time spent working.
What art directors are looking for is - Someone with a competency who has developed a sustainable practice of making art.
This kind of person tends to be reliable, consistent, self-sufficient, and a self-starter. I think if you’re not demonstrating the above in some manner, then you’re not really in the game.
