October art challenges

In Austin Kleon book, “Show your work”, He writes 10 chapters about sharing your work on social media.

Chapter one is titled; “You don’t have to be a Genius” (find a “Scenius”)

A Scenius is an “ecology of talent.” The idea is that great work doesn’t exist in a vacuum and that creativity is always a result of connected minds. In October creatives around the world start and participate in a number of creative challenges.

I’ve never joined one, but I’m thinking of joining one (maybe two or three) this year.

Here are my reasons.

  1. Each challenge is a “Scenius” and October is a chance to participate connect and in a sense collaborate.

  2. It’s easier to get noticed as part of a group.

  3. It solves for a month a problem that I always have which is answering the question; what to draw today.

Poll Results:

I did a poll on instagram to see what everyone’s planning to do. Here’s what some of you said:

October is a month away but Charley Clements had a great tip. “Set aside a couple of hours and sketch all the prompts in advance”. I think that is a super way to make October a time of fun stress free daily drawing while connecting with other who are doing the same prompts.

Are you joining an October challenge or sitting it out? If you are joining which one? What are your reasons? Hit ‘Reply’ to let me know or leave a comment.

Ps: Please please use the comments to share other drawing October Art Challenges! Thank you!

I'm one of the hosts for the @zooguu and @elingeling Drawctober challenge, but I also want to do Facetober this year as well. That's a great tip from Charley Clements about doing a quick sketch of all of the prompts in advance to get your initial ideas out. I was planning on picking a few from our Drawctober list to turn into plush if I can fit it into my schedule. We made it a little more laid back and only 13 prompts vs. 31.
