On day one of basic military training an instructor shouted, “There are only two reasons you don’t meet our standards: Either you don’t know what is expected of you, or you don’t care to do it.” - Rob Henderson’s Newsletter
In the context of making artwork for a market, there are always standards, i.e what is expected of you, these maybe explicit or implicit. In an industry like publishing that is all about collaboration across multiple disciplines, not caring about standards, would probably create such a friction of working with you over time, that it just becomes too difficult to work with you,
So lets assume you care.
All that’s left then is discovering what’s expected of you.
