Marketing is an ongoing activity
The #Kidlitartpostcard hashtag is awesome!
Being an illustrator is more like running a business than having a job. Part of running a business is marketing. It’s a bigger part than people like to admit.
In 2019 I signed up for a digital marketing class, and one of the sound bites that I fount helpful was this. “Marketing is an ongoing activity, decide your ratio and be consistent.”
In 2021, my ratio has shifted from 100% to 0% at times. I’m working out a more consistent ratio for 2022.
“Marketing is an ongoing activity, decide your ratio and be consistent.”
One thing that has brought me a consistent ROI in 2021 is the #kidlitartpostcard on twitter. The hashtag was created in response to the fact that editors and art directors were not going to the office to receive physical postcards so the hashtag was created as an alternative by illustrator Gina Perry.
I love being part of the illustrator and publishing communities, and apart from being a way to promote my business, it’s a way for me to participate and make friends in the community.
How do you market your creative practice? What works for you?
And if you’re someone who commissions illustrations, what are some ways you enjoy discovering illustrators?
