In 2020 I made an indie comic to sell during virtual comic con.
I sold a handful. Might have felt like a wasted effort, but…
In 2021 an author told me that the comic sensibilities I had in this particular comic was the reason he chose me to illustrate his book.
A retweet from that same author, helped me find my literary agent, who’s helped me sign a further 5 (almost 6) deals to illustrate books.
I think the lesson here is, while waiting for someone to pick you to make a thing, you can make your own thing. And if you do, make it ‘you’.
