🗃26. Basic income
The bridge to illustration.
📝 Businesses have capital, becoming an illustrator full-time is becoming a business, and you have to manage your capital, there’s no monthly paycheck so you need to manage your capital. I tried to put together 6 months’ expenses as capital, It’s still a work in progress.1
On Being a Pro
When you are an employee, you get paid, your pay is your basic income.
When you have a business, your business gets paid, and your business pays you a basic income.
If you are an illustrator, you are a business.
I think this is a bridge that every would be illustrator would need to cross, thinking of your illustration career as a business and not a job.
My illustration business can not yet pay me a basic income, so I have a part time job, (which is progress from a full time job).
The exciting thing is my illustration business might soon be able to pay me a basic income.
