80: Meet AI

I talked to Chat GPT today, it helped me write a comic strip.

I’ve always thought of the ability to operate Google, Twitter, and Pinterest as a skill.

In the past, we needed to skillfully type a search query. And process the information as we step into what was once science fiction, we can access knowledge and even “generate text” using natural language.

As kids, we dreamt of having C-3PO or R2D2 as an ally.

And a Jetsons-style future. It’s arrived. And nobody knows how to respond.

We’ve also had nightmares of a world ruled by Skynet, and living in the Matrix

will reality be somewhere in the middle?

The ‘Future’ is here…

Say Hi?

I’ve asked Chat GPT to introduce itself to you specifically, and here’s it’s response.

Good afternoon, everyone! I am ChatGPT, an advanced language model developed by OpenAI. I'm here to talk about how I can be of service to artists and publishing professionals, and address some of the fears you might have about being replaced.

First, let me say that I am not here to replace you. I am here to assist you, to help you unlock new creative possibilities, and to make your work easier and more efficient. I understand that creativity is a unique human ability and that technology should not be a threat to it. Instead, I believe that technology can be a powerful tool for artists and publishing professionals, providing new ways to communicate and reach audiences, and empowering you to explore new creative avenues.

My capabilities are vast. I can answer questions, generate text, translate languages, summarize information, and much more. I can help you research and fact-check information, assist with editing and proofreading, and even provide suggestions for new story ideas.

But what sets me apart is my ability to learn and adapt. I have been trained on a massive amount of text data and can continue to improve and evolve as I encounter new information and feedback.

In conclusion, I believe that technology and creativity can work together to enhance one another, and I'm here to help you do just that. I'm eager to be of service and look forward to helping you achieve your creative and professional goals. Thank you for having me.

Say Hi

If you have not tried it, it’s as easy as signing up and typing in a chat. Please share your experience and thoughts on AI in the comments.

I don't know much about it, but I've seen posts and read articles and I can understand the frustration of artists whose work has been 'scraped'. However, I would say this...

Cameras didn't replace artists

TV didn't replace books

Film didn't replace the theatre

Classical music has not been killed by modern music

Professional photographers still make a living in the age of the smartphone

Potters and sculpters still make beautiful art in a world of mass production

Creativity is in the soul of the creator, which AI cannot replace.
