092: Sketching as Workout

adamming.substack.com

"Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength." - Arnold Schwarzenegger, former professional bodybuilder, actor, and politician.

You do it when you don’t feel like doing it.

You do it to get stronger.

But you also do it to find solutions to problems.

Sometimes you do it to take a break from your problems.

It can have a meditative quality.

Sketching as a workout is not an end in itself, but a means to specific ends.

It’s ‘drills’ to give you benefits.

It’s struggling to bet beyond your current ability.

It’s unpleasant and painful.

You get through it like how you get through a workout.

You change the association from the pain you experience while doing it, to the payoff you get from doing it.
