I didn’t manage to make it to the studio this morning at 4, toddler reasons. Instead I got a good ‘extra’ 4 hours of sleep. Then had breakfast with the family, before heading out to get groceries while the toddler was engaged in her baby gym.
I normally get go straight back into the studio when we get home, but today I couldn’t because, toddler reasons.
Eventually I got here. And I started to grasp for ideas for a newsletter. Not the best way to have ideas. After a fruitless 30 minutes of grasping, I figured, it’s a good time to take a nap.
And the reason, other then recharging the batteries a little, is to get into that state ‘just adjacent to waking’, that is a good state to have ideas in.

Naps are one of the great joys of being a self-employed adult! They help me be more alert when I'm doing the creative work of pulling ideas from my brain and placing them on paper.
I often feel at my most receptive to creativity in the “falling awake” state between stillness and sleep
