038: How to Make a Living as an artist.

You’re on a mission to gather 1020 Customers.

These will be divided into two sets.

1000 True Fans

The first set is 1000 True Fans1. A true fan is someone who would pay you $100 dollars a year for the things you make. This also means you will need to make $100 dollars worth of stuff a year. If a thousand people buy or sign-up for that it’s $100 000, and that’s a living.

Gaining one true fan per day would get you 1000 true fans in only a few years.

The more important number is creating $100 of value every year. Figure this part out first.

20 Dream Clients

The second set is a pool of 20 repeat clients who absolutely love working with you again and would pay between $15k-30k a year. Now you would only be able to do a handful of these projects a year. But having a pool of 20 clients to choose from ensures that you will always have a handful of projects.

Customer Strategy

You need a Customer Strategy to make a living as an artist. That strategy will inform how you spend your time, who you target your marketing to, and the steps or moves you need to make to realize that strategy.
