I’m thinking about the difference between making art and making products. Is it ‘Art’ every time we make something?

I’m thinking about David Shrigley’s quote again.

“Art is the bi-product of the process of creating”

Today’s 5-Minute sketch

Okay that’s probably a misquote, but the idea is there.

What is the process of creating then?

Filtration

The artist is a filter.

A filter of lived experience.

A filter of other Art.

A filter of ideas; your own, and if you’re collaborating in a project or part of a movement, you’re a filter of the ideas of others too.

Then you go about collecting things, researching, sketching, filtering.

Then you start making the thing, filter out your tools choose the best ones for the job.

And you end up with a thing, a product. You now have one last filter. One question to ask; Is it any good and therefore Art?
